Digital Storytelling With Web 2.0 Tools - Presented by Hayden Pozulp
This was a confirming presentation on something I believe we are already doing quite well in Newington. I tend to use Microsoft Photo Story for digital storytelling. Ms. Pozulp shared with us PhotoPeach and Animoto as Web 2.0 tools that serve similar purposes of telling digital stories. We used our own photos or Discovery Education content to create a story with images, videos and sound narration. I found Animoto to be more functional as you can use images and video content to tell your story. We created a story on Yellowstone National Park and included some Park Ranger video with our story to illustrate geologic elements of the park. I see this being an effective tool in grades 2-4. Photo Story works just fine, but Animoto adds the video element. However, unless you subscribe, size and video length are limited. Digital storytelling can be used to integrate language arts projects and social studies. I imagine we can discover a way to integrate with math and science as well.
